The function of the gearbox
The gearbox is a mechanical device consisting of a series of gears and transmission shafts. Its outer casing (i.e., the housing) is used to protect and support the internal components. It is the core component of the mechanical transmission system, and its main functions can be summarized in the following key aspects:

Deceleration and torque increase
This is the most fundamental function. By driving the large gear with the small gear, the rotational speed of the output shaft is reduced, while the output torque is proportionally increased. Thus, high-speed and low-torque power (such as that from a motor) is converted into low-speed and high-torque power to drive heavy loads.

Change the transmission direction
By using cone gears (such as bevel gears) or worm gears and other mechanisms, the gearbox can change the direction of the power transmission axis. For example, it can convert the power rotating around a horizontal axis into power rotating around a vertical axis.

Distribution of power
As a power hub, the gearbox can distribute and transmit the power from a single input to multiple output shafts, thereby simultaneously driving multiple different mechanisms or systems to operate.

Change in speed and torque (transmission)
By switching between different gear sets (such as the gear shifting in an automotive transmission), the gearbox can alter the rotational speed and torque at the output end during operation, to meet various working requirements and conditions.
